*Dr. Ben Warren is leaving Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.
After hinting at the character’s future in the season 13 finale of ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy,” when the character joined in on the quest to rescue Stephanie from the explosion, actor Jason George is officially leaving the show and joining its as-yet-untitled spinoff, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The new show, set to debut at midseason, will follow a heroic group of Seattle firefighters from the captain down the ranks in both their professional and personal lives.
George joins “Rosewood” alum Jaina Lee Ortiz, who could possibly be the show’s leading lady. (According to E!, ABC and Shondaland wouldn’t confirm, though executive producer Paris Barclay did tweet “She’s our star!”)
No word yet on how Dr. Warren will make the transition to the spinoff, but his path to the firehouse will be a key part of the upcoming 14th season, which premieres on Thursday, Sept. 28 at 8 p.m.
